Study on the Functions of Nuclear Technology Innovation System in Iran Regarding their Life Cycle and Technological Capability

This study focuses on technological innovation systems (TISs)with functional approach. There is rare research in the world for identification of necessary sub-functions in a technological innovation system, especially with the purpose of focusing policies and investments on those important sub-functions and facilitating innovation on a special technological field.On the other hand capability and attractiveness of a technology are important criteria in policy-making with positioning approach. The attractiveness of nuclear technologies is high in Iran; therefore the nuclear capability of the country is most important criterion for deciding on necessary sub-functions of innovation system for each technology. In this research first we identified Iran‘s nuclear technologies.Then functions and sub-functions of TIS were identified and selected.In next step the real capability of Iran in nuclear technologies is analyzed based on two metrics including production capability(technical/engineering) and technology performance (technology status and state in its life cycle).Finally important sub-functions are identified according to research model and above metrics (capability and performance). The results of this study can be used for technological policy making.
